Many of you have expressed concern about the new business in the former Dew Drop Inn location on North Broadway.

Here are the facts

1) They applied for a change of use for that location (which is standard operating prodecure).
2) The business manager met in person with our Village Manager, Joe Young and Village Planner, Mario Ortega.

3) During the meeting they reviewed the business definition to see if it’s eligible by ordinance to be located within the downtown center.
4) Since the business is considered a medical office, it is allowed according to Section 6.02 A.6 (page 6.1) of the Village of Lake Orion Zoning Ordinance.
5) The purpose of this business is to collect court-ordered drug testing samples. They are not processed in this office.
6) Their operating hours are Mon – Fri, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
7) Upon Village manager request, their sign will only be visible during business hours. They’ve agreed to take it out of the window completely when closed.
8) How can you help?  You can help the property owner, Mr. John Luchkovitz, to find a viable, more preferred business to rent the space.
9) What is the Lake Orion DDA doing?  We are creating a list of available properties along the commercial corridor from which we hope the business will find a more suitable location.

10)  What is the Village of Lake Orion doing? They’re getting a second opinion regarding the permitted uses in Downtown Center per the zoning ordinance. They’re also looking at ways to fine-tune the zoning ordinance to avoid this kind of issue in the future.

Thank you for your time and concern. Please know now much we appreciate you and love that you are a part of our strong business community.

Sincerely,
